Terms of use

Last updated August 8, 2026

This is the agreement between you and us about using this site. Most of it exists to be clear about one thing: what we are, and what we're not. Using the site means you're okay with what's here.

The Short Version

  • We help you find a therapist. We're not one, and we're not part of what happens after you get in touch with someone.
  • A listing here isn't us recommending that person. We check that their license is real, and that's a different thing.
  • If you're in danger right now, this site is the wrong tool. Call or text 988, or call 911.

We're a Directory, Not a Therapist

Meet My Therapist helps you find someone. That's the whole job. We don't provide therapy, we're not a healthcare provider, and we're not part of whatever you and a therapist decide to do next. When you contact someone from here, the relationship that starts is between the two of you, under their professional license and their state's rules. We're not in it.

That also means we can't answer for what a therapist does. If something goes wrong in therapy, the people who can act are that therapist's state licensing board, not us. We'd still like to know, because a listing here shouldn't outlive a good reason to remove it.

A Listing Isn't a Recommendation

Being on this site means a therapist filled in a profile and, in most cases, that we looked their license up in their state board's public directory and wrote down what we found and when. That's a fact about a record. It isn't a judgement about whether they're good at their job or right for you, and we're not in a position to make that judgement about anyone.

Profiles we haven't checked yet are shown too, clearly marked, with a link to the board so you can check for yourself. Nothing about the order results appear in means we think one person is better than another. How We Verify spells out what our checks do and don't cover.

Nothing Here Is Medical Advice

The questionnaire, the guides, and the descriptions of different approaches are general information. They're written to help you understand what's out there and ask better questions, not to tell you what's wrong or what you need. Nothing on this site is a diagnosis, a treatment plan, or advice about your particular situation, and none of it is a substitute for talking to a professional.

When the questionnaire says an approach tends to help with something, that's a general statement about that approach. It isn't us saying it will help you.

This Site Is Not For Emergencies

Nobody is reading this site in real time. If you're in danger, or thinking about hurting yourself, please call or text 988 (the Suicide and Crisis Lifeline), or call 911.

We try to notice when something you've typed sounds urgent and show you those numbers. That's a best effort with words on a screen, and it will miss things. Please don't treat it as a safety net, and don't wait for us to notice.

Using the Site

You're welcome to read, search, and get in touch with anyone listed. A few things you may not do:

  • Don't harvest therapists' contact details. No scraping, no bots, no automated collection of email addresses or phone numbers, whether for marketing, resale, or anything else. Those details are here so a person can reach a therapist, and the people listed here are trusting us with that.
  • Don't copy the directory. Quote us, link to us, cite us, all welcome. Republishing our listings as your own is not.
  • Don't attack the site or try to reach parts of it that aren't yours.
  • Don't contact anyone here to sell them something. The contact details are for people looking for therapy.

If You List Yourself Here

Everything above still applies, and so does this:

Everything on your profile has to be true

Your license, your credentials, your training, where you can practice, what you charge. If something changes, change it here. A directory built on dated information only works if the dates mean something, and a profile you've stopped maintaining is the failure we're trying to fix.

The license has to be yours

Or, if you're pre-licensed, it has to be your supervisor's, with their knowledge. Listing under someone else's credentials without them knowing is the one thing here that will get a listing removed on the spot.

Your supervisor gets told, and they get a way out

If you list under a supervisor, we email them a note of exactly what has been published, with a link that removes their details. That is not optional and it is not something you can turn off, because their name is going on a public page.

You keep your own content, and let us show it

Your words, your photo, your video: they stay yours. By putting them here you're giving us permission to display them on the site and in search results, which is what a listing is. Take the listing down and that permission ends.

Someone else has to be able to publish it

Don't put anything on your profile you don't have the right to use, and don't put anything about a client on it, ever, however anonymised you think it is.

We can take a listing down

If something's inaccurate, if a license doesn't check out, if a supervisor disputes it, or if a profile breaks these terms, we can unpublish it. We'll tell you why, and we'd much rather fix it than remove it.

What It Costs

Listing is free while we're in the pilot, and searching is free for everyone. We're not going to promise it's free forever, because we don't know that, and a promise we might break is worth less than a straight answer now. If that ever changes for therapists, we'll tell you before it does, not after.

What We Can and Can't Promise

We try hard to keep this site accurate and working, and we can't guarantee either. Licences lapse, therapists move, practices close, and a state board's directory can change without telling anyone. The site comes as it is, without a warranty, and we don't promise it will always be available or always be right.

What we won't do is pretend otherwise. Every check we've made shows the date we made it, so you can see how old our information is instead of guessing.

To the fullest extent the law allows, we're not liable for what happens as a result of using this site, including anything to do with a therapist you found here. Some states don't allow those limits, and where that's true, this doesn't apply to you.

Privacy

What we collect and what we deliberately don't is covered in the Privacy page, which is part of this agreement. The short version is that there are no accounts for people searching, we don't keep your searches, and there's no advertising tracking here.

Changes and Endings

We'll update these terms as the site grows, and the date at the top will move when we do. Changes that actually matter will be said plainly rather than slipped into a sentence. Carrying on using the site after that means you're okay with the new version.

You can stop using the site whenever you like. If you're listed here and you want your profile gone, email us and we'll take it down.

Who You're Agreeing With

This site is run by Lápiz & Lore, LLC. You can reach us at hello@meetmytherapist.com, which is a real inbox with a person behind it.
